This past week, the Pacific Kelp Company team visited our research partners at Cornell University to review the progress of our Alaskan kelp research project.
With funding from the Alaska Mariculture Cluster, we’ve partnered with Cornell University to study the efficacy of our KELPEX product on golf courses and other commercial grasses.
During our visit, we inspected experimental plots that experienced a hot, dry summer in Upstate New York. This season’s research focused on how Alaskan kelp products enhance turf grass health, greenness, and resilience, especially under drought-like conditions.
For golf courses, sports fields, schools, and universities facing environmental and financial pressures this work is crucial. These entities need sustainable, cost-effective solutions to maintain high-quality turf, especially during peak summer heat or droughts.
The Cornell team is currently analyzing data collected over the summer and will continue studying the benefits of Alaskan kelp on turf grasses through 2026. This fall, our research will shift to exploring how kelp can protect turf grass from invasive pests and improve soil health!
Stay tuned for more updates and results from this groundbreaking research!
Taking KELPEX to Climate Week!

John and Nick with a sample of KELPEX at New York Climate Week!
Earlier this month, the PKC team was at New York Climate Week to attend sessions on climate, soil, and ocean health, and to spread awareness for KELPEX! From sessions on urban farming and soil resilience to panels about regenerative ag, presenters and panelists were searching for sustainable solutions to the exact types of issues that KELPEX solves!
We're happy to report that our KELPEX liquid kelp plant biostimulant sparked significant interest among attendees, especially among farmers and researchers! We believe that KELPEX is an ideal solution for farmers and growers who are looking to improve their plant health, yields, and profitability, all while potentially reducing their reliance on other expensive and unsustainable inputs! For those who worry about rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and drought, KELPEX is an especially powerful tool to help plants and crops deal with all sorts of environmental stress!
We left New York energized by the connections we made and the conversations we had. We look forward to sharing updates on how these collaborations move forward!
We're on the Radio!
Earlier this month we were interviewed by a local Alaskan Radio Station, Big Cabbage Radio, to share a bit about our company and KELPEX for their Ag Matters segment.
Check out our first podcast appearance where we talk a bit about why we started Pacific Kelp Company, what we're doing in Alaska, and why farmers in Alaska, and all over the country, should be using KELPEX!
