In Seattle for One Ocean Week!

Earlier this month the Pacific Kelp Co. team was in Seattle for the first US edition of One Ocean Week, a global celebration of ocean innovation and collaboration.
As members of the Washington Maritime Blue startup incubator, we were invited to several exciting events, including a roundtable discussion on how kelp businesses in California, Washington, Oregon, and Alaska can more efficiently collaborate to grow the nascent US kelp industry. It was awesome to meet with peers from all across the US West Coast who are as excited as we are about kelp's massive potential!
We also had the opportunity to share all of the work that we're doing at Pacific Kelp Co. at the One Ocean Week startup showcase. We had a blast talking with all of the investors, researchers, government administrators, and members of the Seattle public who came by and were curious about what we do at PKC! We received a ton of interest about our research work with Cornell and Washington State University, talked about our KELPEX biostimulant product, and even gave away a few PKC-branded hats and T-shirts to people who signed up for our newsletter! Welcome to our new subscribers!
While not an official part of One Ocean Week, we were also invited to present an update on our grant-funded research project to the Southeast Conference governing body. We received a lot positive feedback from members of the SEC governing body and are excited about potential collaborations with other grant-funded teams.
For those of you who are curious about how our projects are going, stay tuned! We'll be sharing some results in our monthly newsletters, but the full data from the Summer '25 season will be presented at the upcoming Alaska Mariculture Conference in Anchorage this March!
If that wasn't reason enough to book tickets to Anchorage, rumor has it that PKC founder Nick is organizing a ski trip to Alyeska after the conference...
Showcasing Customer Success with KELPEX!

A/B testing data from our commercial nursery partner. The y-axis is the number of plants by grade for this production run. n = 3,000
Check out this exciting customer success story! The above data comes from one of the largest commercial nurseries on the East Coast. In this trial, the customer looked at how the addition of KELPEX could impact their success rates in propagating Azaleas, a notoriously difficult, but high-value, plant to propagate.
Overall, they found that KELPEX led to a significant increase in their overall propagation success rate (from 70% with their standard operating procedure to 78% with KELPEX). Using KELPEX also led to an 11% increase in Grade A plants and a 27% decrease in wasted trimmings! Scaled-up to their annual production levels, these results equate to tens of thousands of incremental plants that they are now able to grow to maturity and sell!
This means that for our commercial partner, KELPEX was able to drive significant value to their business and proved a strong return on investment. Incorporating KELPEX into their operations will result in significant incremental revenue and improved profitability as a result of lower shrink - saving them money on space, time, labor and materials.
